A HISTORICAL WALK IN DOROGOMILOVO
How often we go along the same routes and, it would seem, know everything about them - but the old districts of Moscow are fraught with many mysteries. The only surviving section of the city border and the red banner hoisted over the Reichstag crossed the bridge for kisses and the house in which Brezhnev lived, the favorite spots of spies, and the pre-revolutionary railway station are just a small part of what can be seen walking around the Dorogomilovo area.
OBJECT OF WORSHIP
The beginning of the route, a kind of zero kilometers, is located in the very heart of the district - the «Poklonnaya 9» apartment complex. This house under construction next to Kutuzovsky Prospect has collected in its architecture the characteristic features of the Stalinist Empire, neo-Russian style, and modern trends.
We chose this place to start because the object is conveniently located and symbolizes a kind of connection between times. It embodies both respect for history and architecture and a modern approach to creating a high-quality living environment. It is convenient to get from Poklonnaya 9 not only to the points of our excursion: a resident of the complex can always create his own route, quickly finding himself in the center of Moscow with its rich infrastructure or leaving the city. In the meantime, it’s just 15 minutes of easy walk to our first historic stop.
FLAG BANNER OVER THE REICHSTAG
Poklonnaya Gora - we are here. There have never been any mountains in the usual sense of the word: that was the name of small elevations or, as in this case, a hidden gentle hill, which, by the way, was first mentioned in the XIV century. And the mountain was nicknamed "Poklonnaya" because at this place people who came and went bowed to Moscow as a sign of greeting or farewell to the city. However, there is another version, according to which the payment for crossing the border of the parish was called a "bow".
Victory Park has existed here since 1961, and the modern complex was opened in 1995. You can spend the whole day here and still not have time to see everything. But we advise you to pay attention to the exhibition of Soviet and German captured equipment, the Victory Museum, which houses the legendary red flagbanner hoisted over the Reichstag by Mikhail Yegorov and Meliton Kantaria, as well as to the largest fountain of the capital, "Years of War" - 15 000 cubic meters m of water.
The monument to the Member States of the Anti-Hitler Coalition is also noteworthy - four statues of soldiers of France, USSR, USA, and Great Britain, behind which there is a 20-meter stele of white marble with a gilded UN emblem at the top.
